Spencer and her team live in a world where mankind is nearly extinct due to a virus that turns humans into ravenous beast. The human scientists have discovered a cure to the virus, but it requires a special ingredient. The ingredient, is vampire’s blood. Spencer and her team set out to meet a team that consist of Dungeons and Dragons monster manual creatures. Two vampires, one werewolf, a troll, a goblin and finally an elf. Let’s just say things go awry and now the Vampires also seek the cure for this transformational virus.
This story does a good enough job of setting up why humans need to team with classic movie monsters to fight other monsters……. Yeah, it’s bit much. There is a vampire and werewolf romance that is used as a plot device. I find that s bit contrived. Again, I think it does its job as said plot device, but perhaps I’ve watched too many underworld and Blade movies to take the set up seriously. I would include twilight in that list, but I’ve never seen those movies. If you really enjoy vampires and other fantasy monsters, then I think you will enjoy this book and series. If you’re not a fan of vampires and other fantasy monster you will find this to be a bit cliché and hard to follow.
The artwork has a dark tone. There is a lot of dark panels with a lot of shadows. In many of the panels there is too much unnecessary shadows on objects and characters. On the bright side when there is color it does look good. My only complaint about the color is it seems a lot of the monsters are the same color even thought they are not the same monsters.
Overall, I give Monster Planet #2 5 capes out of 10. If you are into vampires and vampire on werewolf romance, you might take the story more seriously. The artwork is adequate, but again goes overboard with the shadows.
